Introducing the candidates

Rumney
Cheryl Arnol is the highly talented individual who is an outstanding candidate, and will be standing as our candidate for Rumney. For almost 20 years she has been involved in local government serving in the role of Councilor, Mayor and Deputy Mayor at varying times (currently Deputy Mayor of Glamorgan Spring Bay Council). Cheryl is a well-respected member of the community and has a broad base of experience in local government and also running a local business.

Cheryl is committed to sensible legislation ensuring that Tasmania’s are not disadvantaged with laws that restrict them in the lawful pursuit of their outdoor activities.

Launceston
Matthew Allen is well known local Tasmanian personality, a business man and family man. He has been very active in the ADA as well as being Chair of the TDAC for several years Matthew stepped down so he could concentrate on his family and the next election. His knowledge is vast as he is a keen outdoors person and his business background means he has a solid understand of the challenges that face local businesses. We are thrilled to have him as a candidate for the Upper House.

Murchison
SFP Tasmania will not be nominating a candidate in Murchison. However we offer our support to long term Mayor of Circular Head, Mayor Darryl Quilliam who is running as in independent. Darryl comes from a rural background and a strong supporter of hunting, shooting, fishing and 4wd access. Daryl is supported widely by a range of organizations within the electorate.

The Shooters & Fishers Party of Tasmania believes Tasmania is fortunate to have vast areas of public land which is suitable for recreational use. Recreational access to these areas is too often denied by governments in the belief that the environment and biodiversity will be degraded unless locked up. We strongly support the right of access to public lands and waters for all recreational users to enjoy and undertake lawful recreational activities.

One of the best ways to grow regional communities and regional economies in Tasmania is through recreational tourism. Vast areas of public land in this State have been locked up and access denied to the recreational enjoying public. Access needs to be regained so recreational users can contribute to regional economies.
