Manus riots and managing debt
Three refugees accused of provoking a riot by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton have made a formal complaint to the Australian Border Force.
Dutton has stood by claims that an attack on Manus Island two weeks ago was in response to refugees leading a small boy into the detention centre. Speaking on Sky News last night, Dutton said CCTV footage from the centre confirmed his version of events, although he did concede the “incident” occurred five days before the riot and there was no indication the refugees intended to harm the child. Calling Dutton’s new claim a “false accusation”, the asylum seekers have demanded that the Immigration Department release the footage.
