Labor ready to back renewable energy where Liberals have failed
Labor’s committed to increasing Tasmania’s renewable energy generation
State and Federal Liberals have wasted years through inaction
Real projects are ready to go now
Labor Leader Rebecca White said only Labor is committed to actually increasing Tasmania’s renewable energy output.
Ms White today joined Federal Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy Mark Butler in Hobart.
“Labor governments would work together to deliver real renewable energy projects, not just reviews and studies,” Ms White said.
“Our policy to increase Tasmania’s renewable energy generation by at least 500 megawatts would create significant economic opportunities.
“We’d work with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to get real projects off the ground, creating full-time jobs across Tasmania.
“The Hodgman Government has not delivered a single renewable energy project since coming to Government, despite wind farms like Granville Harbour being ready to go.
“Tasmania has been let down by the State and Federal Liberal governments not working together.
“The Government should have finalised a power purchase agreement with Granville Harbour years ago.
“The promise of reviews and feasibility studies are fine but we need to be starting actual projects, to create real jobs.
“The report into a second Basslink confirmed what Labor has been arguing and that’s the fact we need additional renewable energy generation to justify a second link.
“Labor would work together in government to deliver significant renewable energy outcomes.
“While the Liberals are held back by ideology, Labor would get on with creating employment by encouraging investment in renewables.”
