Hodgman Government inaction holding back Tasmania’s economy

Posted on

 CommSec State of the States report ranks Tasmania in 4th spot
 Hodgman Government’s lack of action holding us back
 No sign of economic reform or serious investment in infrastructure

The latest CommSec State of the States Report* shows Tasmania remains in the same spot on the national economic rankings.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said it’s symbolic of the Liberal Government’s approach to the economy.

“The Government’s hands-off approach means Tasmania’s economy is not performing to its full potential,” Mr Bacon said.

“We’re more than three years into the life of the Hodgman Government and where are the economic reforms?

“There’s been no significant investments in public infrastructure, no progress on renewable energy and no innovative reforms.

“The economy has bright spots but they have absolutely nothing to do with the current government.

“Tasmanians expecting big things when Will Hodgman was elected three years ago have been left disappointed.

“Labor is determined to be a government that builds.

“We’ve got a policy to complete three big projects to unlock enormous economic opportunities for the state.

“By fixing the water and sewerage challenges in Launceston, at Macquarie Point and for Mona stage two we can allow for hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of investment.

“The Hodgman Government has sat on its hands for more than three years.”
