Government ignores doctors and votes down health inquiry
Liberals vote against hospital inquiry
Inquiry backed by the Australian Medical Association
The Liberal Government has voted down an inquiry into the health system despite it having the backing of the Australian Medical Association.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said the Government is afraid of having a good look at the state of our hospitals.
“What is the Government afraid of?,” Ms White said.
“Health professionals agree with Labor that a parliamentary inquiry would be an effective way to examine what is going wrong in Tasmania’s hospitals.”
“The Australian Medical Association said “It’s time for an independent inquiry to examine how this situation has been allowed to develop and deteriorate, despite repeated warnings from frontline staff,” (AMA Tasmania President Dr Stuart Day)
“That’s not Labor saying an inquiry is needed, that’s the AMA,” Ms White said.
“But unfortunately the Liberals today turned down the opportunity to establish an inquiry, choosing to believe they know best.”
