Everyone belongs at a Neighbourhood House
Neighbourhood House Week begins today with Tasmanians ready to celebrate the strong sense of connectedness Neighbourhood Houses bring to their communities.
Neighbourhood House Week runs from 1 to 7 May and is a time to recognise the important role Neighbourhood Houses play in the Tasmanian community. The theme of this year’s event is ‘belonging’.
John Hooper, Executive Officer for Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania, said “Neighbourhood House Week makes us think about the importance of, and the strength that comes with ‘belonging’. Across Tasmania, Neighbourhood Houses in 35 communities will open their doors to celebrate the positive impact they make to Tasmanians every day. Houses play a vital role in bringing people together to address the needs of communities at a local level and of course build on their community’s successes and strengths”.
Devonport Community House Manager, Kate Beer, said that “On average each Neighbourhood House receives 281 contacts from Tasmanians each week; these Tasmanians benefit from a welcoming environment where they have a chance to learn a new skill, foster meaningful relationships and most importantly be part of creating a better, safer and more enriching place to live”.
