Dear Dr Bull …
Dear Dr Bull,
I believe that it is essential that you NOW purchase and read a copy of a recent publication : “Losing Streak – How Tasmania was gamed by the gambling industry” by James Boyce published by www.blackincbooks.com.au earlier this year.
The “…practice of our State Government and Forestry Tasmania…” which Quentin Beresford so well exposed in his book last year – “The Rise and Fall of Gunns Ltd” – which you surely MUST already have read, are echoed in this slight volume released under the publisher’s REDBACK label.
PLEASE READ “Losing Streak” as soon as possible to properly inform you of your actual role within the Tasmanian government/system. It is published under Forest Stewardship Accreditation – the clear economic advantage of which both our State Government and Forestry Tasmania are still in denial.
I have been a resident of the NW coast of Tasmania for 47 years and have visited Lapoinya many times. I took part in a carbon accounting process of the disputed coupe FD53A there – a coupe which should have been left alone on account of its bio-diverse habitat; pristine ecology; role as an essential local watershed; loved home of a caring and upright community. It has now been destroyed by those with whom you have associated.
So-called “fuel reduction burning” undertaken by FT continues again this unseasonably warm autumn, shamelessly contributing, as it has done for decades, to now run-away climate change which affects us all. Submissions were called for on the issue of bulldozing and burning post-clear-felling forest residue back in the 1990s. The report was abandoned as one of the first acts of the Bacon Labor government.
I contributed my submission, as I have to all Regional Forest Agreement calls for submissions, and legislation to protect the Giant Freshwater Crayfish last year. All such attempts to call for change are ignored.
Parliament and democracy in Tasmania continues to be distrupted, as per the latest dispute over “anti-environment” forest legislation. The purpose of the withdrawal of that legislation from the Legislative Council is clear :-
• the enabling of powerful vested interests to throw money at the obscuring of facts and manipulation of the media and population prior to a Legislative Council Election;
• the spiralling ethical behaviour by the Forest Industry (equalling that of the Gambling industry as revealed in “Losing Streak”);
• the impoverishment of Tasmania’s population going back to 1969 and, even prior to that, through the (then) powerful Hydro Electric Commission;
• the utterly pathetic mouthings of Liberal and Labor politicians in order to ensure their undeserved re-election;
• the appointment of people such as yourself to aid and abett the above. PLEASE ACT NOW.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Rosemary Farrell
