TasWater jobs must be retained to support aquaculture
Liberals’ hypocrisy highlighted by silence on TasWater job losses
Labor urges the business to retain workers across the state
Sorell depot must remain open to support the aquaculture industry
The Liberal Government’s stance on water and sewerage is grossly hypocritical.
It’s been revealed that seven workers stand to lose their jobs when TasWater shuts down its Sorell depot.
“Labor calls on TasWater to use the current consultation phase to seriously consider retaining these important local jobs that help deliver environmental certainty to the aquaculture sector,” Labor Leader Rebecca White said.
“How can the Liberals talk about supporting aquaculture through water and sewerage infrastructure when they are happy to see workers in the south-east removed?
“Labor strongly opposes TasWater’s plan to sack 94 workers across the business. The Liberals on the other hand support the sackings.
“Will Hodgman is grossly hypocritical when he stands with the aquaculture industry and says he has their best interests at heart.
“If he did, he’d be going into bat for these workers at Sorell and demanding the depot remains open.”
