Tarkine community forum in Launceston

Posted on

Bob Brown Foundation is hosting a community forum at the Annexe Theatre in Launceston on Monday 3 April at 6:30pm.

Speakers are Bob Brown, Australian Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, and Launceston Legislative Council candidates, Neroli Ellis, Emma Anglesey and Rosemary Armitage MLC.
All candidates running in the Launceston Legislative Council have been invited to speak.

“Our Foundation is campaigning for secure protection for takayna / Tarkine. We are advocating for this spectacular region to be protected as a National Park, World Heritage listed and returned to Aboriginal ownership. Logging by Forestry Tasmania is imminently threatening two high conservation value forests in the Tarkine, on the banks of the Frankland River, where we have been operating a conservation camp for the past 45 days. Our campaign for the protection of these forests has reached more than 1.5 million people on our social media channels and we have delivered 400 protest postcards to Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg.

The Tarkine has Australia’s largest remaining tract of cool temperate rainforest, a vast coastline of globally significant Aboriginal heritage and the area is a vital stronghold for rare and endangered species. The time for long lasting protection for takayna / Tarkine is now, and we are calling on parliamentarian leaders to ensure this protection is granted. Our next major campaign project is Tarkine in Motion, our unique environmental arts project where 120 artists will visit the Tarkine over Easter,” Jenny Weber said.
