Young Tasmanians smashed by penalty rate decision
The Greens will introduce legislation to protect weekend penalty rates for retail, fast food, hospitality and pharmacy workers, Greens Senator for Tasmanian Nick McKim says.
“Today’s decision to slash penalty rates will overwhelmingly impact on young Tasmanians, who are already finding it tough enough to make ends meet, let alone being able to afford a decent roof over their head,” Senator McKim said.
“The Liberal Party are again supporting the profits of big businesses and their corporate donors over the home and family lives of tens of thousands of Tasmanians.”
“They have opened up yet another front in their ongoing war against young Tasmanians.”
“We know that more and more young people are working in part-time and outside of conventional hours, and rely on penalty rates to get by.”
“The Greens call on Tasmanian MPs across the political spectrum to support our legislation to protect penalty rates.”
