Teen Challenge music event provides MARRA a great opportunity to protest
Meander Area Residents and Ratepayers Association Inc (MARRA)
We don’t like the music!
Bodhi Mc Sweeney, President of the Meander Area and Ratepayers Association Inc. (MARRA) today said members of the association will hold a peaceful protest this Saturday the 11th February, to voice their opposition to the planned use of the school by Teen Challenge.
“Teen Challenge holding a music event in our school on Saturday provides a great opportunity to demonstrate our opposition to the proposed use and our determination to restore the school for Community use” said Ms Mc Sweeney
“Teen Challenge hosting this music day is insensitive to the real people of Meander who have real concerns about the process, complete lack of community consultation by the Meander Valley Council and the proposed use as a Christian fundamentalist drug and domestic violence rehabilitation centre.”
“The Teen Challenge board think that by ignoring our community group and concerns that the problem will go away, Well it won’t and we won’t.”
“We have leased the block next to the school as a permanent protest site and will continue peaceful protest until Teen Challenge have found a more appropriate place and this public asset is returned to public hands for the good of the whole community.
“Our community is determined to ensure that our school is returned to its rightful place as a centre of social and cultural exchange”
“We will never give up” said Ms Mc Sweeney.
