O-Week to welcome new and returning students to university

Posted on

The Tasmania University Union (TUU) is proud to announce that O-Week is well underway.

O-Week is always held in the first week of semester, following on from the Universities formal
orientation. This year O-Week is between the 27th of February and the 3rd of March.

The TUU will be hosting a myriad of events throughout the week across all University of Tasmania
(UTAS) campuses.

The TUU President, Clark Cooley will be travelling the to every campus to introduce students to the
University of Tasmania and the Tasmania University Union.

“The first weeks of university are the prime time to get new and continuing students engaged with
the union. It’s important that we hold events on all campuses throughout this week to attract a wide
range of students. The prime time for this will be the market days on Tuesday and Wednesday.” Mr
Cooley said.

“Market days will be held on all three campuses across the state to distribute information and
resources to students. The TUU will be giving away a range of freebies including diaries and wall
planners. We are hoping that students will get a feel for the TUU at our market days and then
come along to our celebrations throughout the rest of the week”.

This years O-Week will also carry an important message to new and continuing students, that
sexual harassment is never OK.

“We’ll be promoting our #NeverOK campaign throughout the week, asking students to sign a
pledge to take action against sexual harassment, and support others to do so too, as well a, to not
tolerate, condone or ignore sexual harassment of any kind and to challenge sexual harassment
when possible” Mr Cooley said.

Maria Daglas, Campus President South said “While O-Week is about making new friends,
orientating yourself to university life, and generally having fun, its important to have a strong
message to students that they have a responsibility to look out for themselves, and one another”
A full list of O-Week events is listed below.

The Tasmania University Union (TUU) was founded in 1899 as the state-wide representative body
for all students of the University of Tasmania. The TUU seeks to advance the rights and protect the
