How Bob Brown and Tasmania’s beauty inspired a concerto

“I am a fan of classical music, but I don’t sit and listen to it all day,” says Bob Brown. “I’m far too busy out there listening to nature.”

The former leader of the Greens and lifelong activist spends more time out in the bush than he does plugged into earbuds: an increasing rarity in today’s world.

He is a cultured man, but Dr Brown says culture plays second fiddle to his first and foremost love: the natural world. After all, he says, quoting Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi: “Nothing is art if it does not come from nature.”
