About the NBCF

The NBCF is the only national body that funds life-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public. Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer facing Australian women, with eight women dying from the disease each day — mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and friends, and 1 % of males also being diagnosed each year. The NBCF’s aspirational goal is to achieve zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. With 44 Australians diagnosed each day and seven dying from the disease, there is still much to do.

Research is the only way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. By funding world-class research, NBCF is leading the way in research projects.

Since 1994, NBCF has awarded more than $140 million to 470 Australian-based research projects to improve the health and well-being of those affected by breast cancer, funding research right across the spectrum – from understanding the fundamental basis of the disease to psychosocial research aimed at improving the quality of life for survivors.

Both women have raised in excess of $10,000 for the El Camino trek campaign which has been donated to the charity, through events held across the past year in Tasmania and via donations from the public through their Everyday Hero pages. At the same time, they have self-funded the costs of the tour and travel costs to get to Spain to complete the challenge of walking up to 28 kms a day on the El Camino trail.

Shannons Take Your Tops Off For Breast Cancer Research 2017 (TYTO)

Where: Parliament House Lawns Hobart
When: 1 April 2017 from 10.30 am to 2.00 pm
FREE Community Event

The popular static car show at the Parliament House Lawns in Hobart will again be held on Saturday 1 April 2017. This event has been a major success, both as a popular free community event for the public to engage at, and also as part of the calendar of events in Hobart assisting raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event features the popular Lord Mayor’s trophy, the TasPlates People’s Choice prize, and the Shannons’ most prized car award. This static car display, now celebrating the fifth year since inception, is open to entries from all class of cars, from vintage through to modern, and is free to participate in, and free to attend.

The event in Hobart will this year also have a fashion aspect, with attendees being encouraged to dress to the era or to complement the cars on display. There will be a fashion parade and makeovers on the day by Billie Rocka. Prizes for best dressed ladies are courtesy of Your Habitat, Kingston Florist, and Brown Brothers wines. Best dressed winners and winning cars are to be announced at 2.00 PM.

The event started in Hobart as the brain child of Rodney Belbin of Shannons and Judi Adams, and has become one that Shannons now supports nationally and now hosts across other states throughout Australia. In total this initiative has raised over $14000 locally and with the $5500 raised in 2016 at the Canberra event, to date this has raised a combined total of over $30000 nationally for the National Breast Cancer Foundation since the inaugural event in Hobart in October 2012.

This annual event proudly supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In turn at this year at the event, Sue Hillam and I will literally be supported by Handee Bra, a fabulous Australian patented product, and we will be wearing our Handee Bras on the day at the event! We will have information on the Handee Bra and a display on hand to share with those visiting the pink NBCF tent.

It is free to enter the car display and free to attend this community event and the event attracts much through traffic and many tourists as it is held alongside Salamanca market. Entrants can register their vehicle through Rod Belbin on rodney_belbin@shannons.com.au or phoning Shannons on 0408 314 309
