Support sustainable Tassie salmon …
Environment Tasmania welcomes the AWU’s new public relations campaign in support of Tassie salmon.
“Environment Tasmania is pleased the union is taking an active role in the debate about the need for jobs growth and security in the industry, and their recognition that industry growth needs to be sustainable,” said Laura Kelly, Strategy Director at Environment Tasmania, the state’s peak environmental group.
“Coming a day after the EPA released a 36-page report on environmental harm from salmon farming in Macquarie Harbour, it isn’t surprising that workers in the industry are asking for support to resolve some of the conflict that Tassal’s unsustainable practices have generated in the community.”
“We’re confident that if the government improves salmon farming regulations, Tassal can address its current sustainability challenges and create a solid foundation for future jobs growth in the process.”
