Political Wallflowers dragged to join Sussan on the Dancefloor

Posted on

Calls to step up, stand aside, then demands that she step down have been exclusively reserved for Sussan Ley, but now the spotlight falls on expenses of all politicians it’s time to call them all to get up and dance.

Timing is everything. Party leaders will be kicking themselves that the wounded health minister was not bound, gagged and sacrificed before the blazing fury of public attention shifted to others and things started to add up for the Australian paying public.

Turnbull, Abbott and all others failing to deliver promised entitlement reforms will have to be quick on their feet to avoid the ultimate responsibility now that they are reluctantly sharing the limelight.

Widening investigations are hourly exposing the abandonment of their embattled colleague and attempts to throw Ley to the media lions, as diversionary tactics and political bastardry.

The time has run out for Ley to be offered as an imperfect expiation for the sins of the whole parliament.

All those recently eager to put the boots in or cast the first stone might instead cool their heels while composing monumental explanations to Ley and their electorates why sharing the political blame remains a luxury they choose not to afford.
