Mayor of Glenorchy Kristie Johnston Media Statement …

The Minister for Local Government, Mr Peter Gutwein, has today given notice that he is contemplating the suspension of all Glenorchy City Council aldermen.

My paramount concern has always been the best interest of the community and serving them. I reiterate that I am deeply concerned about the governance arrangements at Glenorchy City Council. The community deserves better.

I intend, as I have always done, to give the Board of Inquiry and the Minister my full cooperation.

It is a privilege to serve this community as Mayor. I began my term by pledging to to work for the people of Glenorchy to improve the transparency and accountability at Council and I remain firmly committed to doing that, even if that results in a personal cost to me.

I wish to thank the community for their ongoing support. It is a rocky road to better governance at Glenorchy but it is one that has to be taken because at the end of the day Glenorchy deserves a functional, transparent and accountable Council that acts in the best interest of residents.
