Liberals drop the ball on water and sewerage
Oyster contamination highlights the need to invest in water and sewerage
Last budget had $185 million in unallocated infrastructure funding
Liberals failure to invest will hold the state back
The Liberal Government’s failure to invest in water and sewerage infrastructure is holding Tasmania back.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the oyster contamination on the East Coast is a prime example of the threat to the state’s economy.
“If the Government doesn’t act now, we will continue to face ongoing issues with our water and sewerage infrastructure,” Mr Bacon said.
“The Liberals’ last budget had $185 million of unallocated infrastructure funding.
“Instead of building a pre-election war chest, the Government should be spending the money now on vital infrastructure upgrades.
“The Government should be embarrassed that its commitment to water and sewerage only extends as far as $80,000 for new toilets at Campbell Town.
“The Liberals need to take the rationale behind the new toilets and apply it to the whole state.
“If we don’t prepare for growth we will sabotage the state’s economy and miss valuable employment creating opportunities.
“We need a government that’s proactive when it comes to infrastructure, not one that always thinks someone else should be paying for it.”
