Government sitting on independent education report
Australian Council for Educational Research report still on Minister’s desk
Why is the Government stalling its release?
Liberals won’t address flaws in their policy
Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne has called on the Government to release an independent report into years 9-12 in Tasmanian schools.
“Jeremy Rockliff must explain why he is sitting on the report from the Australian Council for Educational Research,” Ms O’Byrne said.
“This government has an appalling track record of trying to bury information that doesn’t suit its political agenda.
“The final report was handed to Minister Rockliff last year but we’ve heard nothing since.
“Is it the case that the report’s findings don’t suit the Government’s political spin when it comes to post year 10 education in Tasmania?
“The Liberals are pushing ahead with their reforms to year 11 and 12 in Tasmania without even considering their own expert reports.
“The Government has failed to answer what their policy means for our public college system and what it means for subject choice for students.
“Just last week we heard that not one of the new northern high schools moving to year 11 and 12 will offer level 3 subjects that will allow their students to enter university.
“There are holes in the Government’s policy that the Minister is afraid to confront.”
