Cygnet Jazz revue 2017
Cygnet Town Hall, Mary St, Cygnet
Saturday 14th January, 1.00pm

The Cygnet Jazz Revue is back once again to celebrate the Music, the Food, and the wealth of talent that abounds in Cygnet and the Huon Valley. Musical offerings for the afternoon will include: The Huon Valley Swing Band, Voicestrings and The Cygnet Jazz Collective. Food and drink is being provided by the Cygnet Woodfired Bakehouse and Pagan Cider.

The Revue will kick off with the exciting sounds of the Huon Valley Swing Band. This 18 piece big band was formed for the first revue in 2010 and has been going from strength to strength as they recruit more and more players and continue to hone their skills, so we can expect a floor packed with dancers showing off their newly-learned skills.

An exciting new addition this year is Voicestrings. The Cygnet Jazz Collective and Voicestrings got together down at the Gallery in Cygnet in early 2016 and had a great time exploring the connections between Jazz and Bluegrass. Montz Motsumoto, the leader of the group, is a great guitarist and banjo player who enjoys a well-established Australian and international reputation. Alongside Montz is bassists Ross Sermons, a legendary figure of the Nashville scene and rounding out the trio is Ross Smithard. Ross is so fine a fiddle player that some suspect him of maybe even being a violinist!

Last on the bill, but not least is the Cygnet Jazz Collective. The C.J.C. have been kicking around for a few years now, and with the excitement surrounding the release of their new album, the boys are in fine fettle. With Paul Martin on reeds, Malcolm Martin on trumpet and vocals, Brad Madigan on guitar and vocals, Tony Morgan and Derek Capewell on bass and Paul Svensen on drums the band will once-again strive to live up to its motto: ‘Good Musos playing Great tunes’ in their own entertaining and often unpredictable way.

Doors open at 12.00 and there will be free swing dance lessons from 12.30, so get on your dancing shoes and come on down! Adults $15.00, kids under 16 gold coin donation.
