CH Smith
On behalf of the Government, I would like to welcome the decision by the Launceston City Council to approve the development of the CH Smith building.
This site has been a blight on the cityscape of Launceston for far too long and this development is long overdue.
The Government is committed to working with the Council and the developers to see this project come to fruition, which is why we have backed the project with a $9 million loan from the Northern Economic Stimulus fund.
Redeveloping the CH Smith site is vital for confidence in Launceston and the North more broadly. It will be a symbol that the North is open for business, ready for investment and that the Government is going to work with local communities to create jobs and grow the economy. The Government firmly believes that this project will act as a catalyst for other investments and developments.
