New report shows power prices to fall
The Hodgman Government is committed to putting downward pressure on power prices and since we came to office, power prices have reduced by 2.4 per cent.
Today’s AEMC report clearly shows that we are delivering on our promise.
The report indicates that by 2018/19 Tasmanian residential customers will have the lowest prices of any Australian region.*
It predicts that power prices could fall by an additional 0.6 per cent over the next two years.
While this is only a small reduction, it’s in stark contrast to the rest of Australia, where prices are expected to go up everywhere apart from Queensland.
It’s also highlights just how bad Labor was at managing power prices in Tasmania. Power prices went up by 65 per cent on Bryan Green’s watch.
We will continue to work with Tasmania’s energy businesses to keep downward pressure on power prices.
