Tasmanian Australian of the Year
Congratulations to passionate speech pathologist Rosalie Martin, our 2017 Tasmanian Australian of the Year.
A truly deserving recipient, Rosalie received the honour for her work supporting individuals with severe literacy disorders.
Rosalie has visited Risdon Prison as a volunteer to deliver Just Sentences, a pilot project that helps to uncover and tackle literacy problems. It’s delivering fantastic results with many learning to read in a matter of months. She is also the founding speech pathologist of Chatter Matters Tasmania, a charity building awareness and skills in human communication.
Each year Australia celebrates the people who inspire through their achievements.
We also congratulate the other category winners:
• Tasmanian Senior Australian of the Year, sustainable living advocate Margaret Steadman;
• Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year, suicide prevention leader Mitch McPherson; and
• Tasmania’s Local Hero, youth worker Anthony Edler.
Congratulations to all finalists for the remarkable contributions they have made toward making our State an even greater place to live.
These winners will represent Tasmania at the 2017 Australian of the Year Awards to be announced on the eve of Australia Day.
