Rhythm X adds to our major events program
Today’s inaugural Rhythm X dirt bike event at Symmons Plains is another great example of the Hodgman Liberal Government helping to secure world-class entertainment and creating jobs in regional Tasmania.
Richard Stevenson and his team are to be congratulated on the vision and hard work in bringing this concept to fruition in Tasmania in less than 12 months. This is the first time the Rhythm X format, a combination of the Supercross and Rhythm disciplines, has been held in Australia after being launched in the US by Red Bull America in 2014.
The Tasmanian Government, through Events Tasmania, has provided $175,000 in Major Events Partnership funding to help establish infrastructure and secure the event for the next three years.
Together with major events like the V8 Supercars, Targa Tasmania and AFL games in Launceston and Hobart, Rhythm X will attract interstate and overseas tourists and help create jobs.
In addition to the 150 riders and their crews and families, organisers expect to generate 3500 interstate visitations during the 2016-18 period – many of whom will stay on and tour the State.
Symmons Plains is now the only venue in Australia to offer a professional race car circuit to V8 Supercar standard and a professional world-class dirt Supercross race track facility.
The Tasmanian Rhythm X team have made a major financial commitment to this project and have done an amazing job to build these tracks and facilities during one of the State’s wettest winters – congratulations.
