Labor’s pre-selection commitment will welcome Tasmanians from all walks of life

 Depth of talent in Parliamentary Labor Party unmatched by Liberals
 Community leaders, business leaders, union movement encouraged to stand
 Candidates from diverse backgrounds can help Labor make a difference
Labor Leader Bryan Green has addressed the party’s State Conference in Queenstown today encouraging Tasmanians from all walks of life to seek pre-selection for the 2018 state election.
Mr Green said the Parliamentary Labor Party was incredibly strong with a depth of talent not matched by the current Hodgman Liberal Government Cabinet and the evolving pre-selection process in the lead-up to the next Tasmanian election would build on that strength.
“The thing that really excites me is the opportunity to grow our strong and talented team in the months ahead,” Mr Green said.
“I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have expressed an interest in running at the next election – there has never been a better time to stand for Labor.
“I am encouraging anyone with an interest in long-term, progressive policies to consider putting up their hand to run for preselection.
“I want members of the union movement to stand for Labor, I want small business operators to stand for Labor, I want community leaders to stand for Labor.
“We will have candidates from all walks of life, with a diverse array of backgrounds – all united behind a belief that Labor creates the best opportunities for Tasmania and its people.
“I’m determined to lead a team to the next election that is united, committed and ready to work.
“This conference has endorsed a process that will lock in candidates well in advance of the election.
“This will give us the greatest opportunity to secure support in the community.
“The past year has shown what Labor can achieve. Our successful Upper House and Federal Election campaigns have shown what a hard-working, united Labor team can achieve by working together.”
