The Liberal Government needs to adopt Labor’s positive policy on renewable energy or risk being left behind by other states.

Labor Leader Bryan Green said the New South Wales Liberal Government has just announced a policy on renewable energy development and electrical vehicles that is remarkably similar to Labor’s Target 500 policy.

“Tasmania is in danger of being left behind when it comes to renewable energy and electric transport,” Mr Green said.

“In NSW we have a Liberal Government championing renewable energy.

“But in Tasmania we’ve got a government that completely lacks vision and innovation.

“A Labor government would invest in electric transport technology to create jobs in advanced manufacturing and capitalise on our renewable energy advantage.

“In government, Labor would invest $20 million to create opportunities in alternative transport.

“We also have a strategy to increase our renewable energy capacity by 500 MW over the next decade.

“By working with the Clean Energy Finance Opportunity, we can unlock significant investment in renewables including projects like the Granville Harbour wind farm.

“In contrast the Liberals are doing nothing in Tasmania to set the state up for the future.”
