Review of penalties after Paino tragedy

Re: Controversial new report recommending changes to the sentencing of drivers who’s negligent behaviour results in death.

My son Matt was on his way home from a work conference in the back seat of a company car. All he did wrong that day was to go to work. Along with his work colleague they both lost their lives due to a negligent driver, “that negligent driver” had a history of falling asleep behind the wheel and other road incidents.

This driver was a Principle of a Catholic school, driving, I believe a company car. I also believe, due to him having a history of falling asleep behind the wheel and other road incidents he should have never been driving a car, let alone a company vehicle. Such an horrific tragedy leaves a family of the innocent shattered forever, I have been trying to get an apology from the people who I believe owned the car.

In saying the above, I know we have to do something to stop war on our roads, so that our loved ones can return home safe and sound. However when you have lost a loved one no punishment seems enough; locking people up doesn’t really do much for the lost loved ones, maybe the negligent drivers should have to face the loved one’s families once a week to see how they have destroyed their lives, I believe that would be a good deterrent.
