Hydro storages hit 40 per cent for first time in nearly three years

Posted on

The Government remains committed to ensuring long-term energy security for Tasmania.

For the first time since February 2014 Hydro’s storages have reached 40 per cent, and may continue to rise if the spring rains continue.

Importantly, our major storages are continuing to improve, with Lake Augusta and Great Lake at 32.9 per cent and Lake Pedder and Lake Gordon at 26.3 per cent.

In August, Hydro advised that it was working towards returning storages to 40 per cent, as storages are rebuilt following the unprecedented dry weather and Basslink failure, which saw them drop to just 12.5 per cent in April.

This is all part of the Government’s plan to rebuild our water storages after the previous Labor-Green government lowered the prudent operating level to just 25 percent due to the carbon tax.

While the last 12 months have been challenging, the Government has delivered under its energy supply plan. We ensured energy security, we kept power prices as low as possible and we worked with industry and businesses to protect Tasmanian jobs.
