Hodgman’s lack of leadership allows Hidding saga to drag on

Premier Will Hodgman’s performance during Question Time shows he just doesn’t understand why Ruth Forrest called out the behaviour of his Minister.

Deputy Labor Leader Michelle O’Byrne said the Premier’s dismissive response is telling.

“Will Hodgman just wants the bullying saga to go away,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“Three weeks after the ugly incident the Premier’s lack of leadership means the issue is a long way from being resolved.

“And it won’t be resolved until the Premier and Minister acknowledge the gravity of what has been alleged by Ruth Forrest.

“Instead Will Hodgman is now describing the bullying incident as an argument between two politicians.

“The Premier just doesn’t get it. Ruth Forrest is not in the habit of making formal complaints following arguments.

“The incident of September 20 went way beyond an argument. Ms Forrest has made it clear she felt bullied, intimidated, coerced and threatened.

“Rene Hidding today had the opportunity to refute directly allegations put by Ruth Forrest, including that he had disparaged a member of the public.

“The Premier was forced to admit, that despite attending the same dinner as Ruth Forrest on Monday evening, he has still not spoken to her.

“The issue will not be resolved until Will Hodgman treats it with the respect it deserves.”
