Commissioner For Children & Young People opens ‘Caring Communities’ Exhibition at MAC

The District Nurses, one of Hobarts oldest and best-loved philanthropic not for profit organisations, are hosting a community art exhibition ‘Caring Communities’ on the 13th and 14th October at the Moonah Arts Centre, 23-27 Albert Rd, Moonah.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 120th Anniversary of Hobart District Nursing Service which was first established in 1896 to provide in home community care to the people of Hobart, and has since grown to deliver services state wide.

The exhibition will be opened by Mark Morrissey, Commissioner for Children and Young People, and is free to the public.

Mrs Kim Macgowan Chief Executive said, ‘the Caring Communities exhibition consists of works in a range of mediums by children, young people and community members illustrating what a caring community means to them. It has been our privilege to engage local students from Bowen Road and Moonah Primary schools and the community members from West Moonah, Chigwell and Goodwood Neighbourhood Houses, also the Tasmania Nursing Collection is involved.

‘The exhibition will also feature memorabilia and historical items depicting the history of our amazing service’ said Mrs Macgowan.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 11 am – 4pm on Thursday October 13, and from 10 – 4pm on Friday October 14. ‘The District Nurses aim has always been to maintain people of all ages in their own homes where possible, preventing unnecessary admission to hospital and nursing homes. We provide quality nursing care, domestic assistance, end of life care and operate the Tasmanian Community Clinic. These services underpin the work that the District Nurses have delivered in Tasmanian communities for the past 120 years’, said Mrs Macgowan.
