Bill Harvey’s bid for the RACT Board
The RACT board election is occurring at the moment. If you are a member you should have received, or will soon receive a copy of your Journeys Magazine.
In it, you will find an envelope containing your ballot paper to elect four members to the board. (4 are elected/re-elected to the 12 member board each year). I’m standing again and would like you to vote for me and return your ballot paper. There’s only 5 candidates running for 4 positions. You have to select 4 of us by placing an X in four boxes.
You need to return your ballot paper by the 2nd November.
The RACT has 120,000 members in Tas and about 6600 return their ballot papers. Since 1923 only one non-incumbent has been elected to the board. All other board members have been board appointments and then the appointed board member is elected and then re-elected till they retire. So it’s quite a closed shop and a challenge for a non-incumbent to get elected.
You can read my 200 word spiel in the info ballot pack, but as a director, what I will bring to the table is an overarching environmental perspective. Something that I think is lacking on most boards of management. I am keen to be an active board member and ensure that the importance of environmental values helps guide the decision making process of the board and operations across the organisation.
The board has an important role in the future direction of mobility and the direction of tourism in the state. It needs to be responsive to changing needs and encouraging of community input into how it develops its proposals, especially with regard to developments in or near conservation areas.
Please read your ballot pack and consider voting for me along with 3 others of your choice.
If you are keen to help me get elected then please forward my message to friends and family urging them to vote.
Kind regards.
Bill Harvey
