Hobart Council divestment update
In May 2016 350 Hobart’s delivered a petition of 1500 signatures to Hobart Council calling on the council to move its cash reserves away from the big four banks (and thus away from investment in the fossil fuel industry). At its meeting this week, Council passed a motion to:
1. Reaffirm its decision to proceed with a detailed external
review of its investment approach, and
2., That ‘…Council’s approach to ethical investments and borrowings, and
in particular the matters raised in the petition presented to the
Council at its meeting of 9 May 2016, form part of that review.’
We await the review and commend the council for committing resources to this important issue!
Sustainable Living Festival
350 Hobart will be holding a stall at the festival. If you can help out, please get in touch. We need to fill two days of two hour shifts. It will be lots of fun – we’ll have our superhero divestment photo board, and lots of 350 info, and be sharing the stall with Climate Action Hobart. www.slt.org.au/festival
