Pokie Leaks: Shining a light on the poker machine industry

Posted on

The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, has joined gambling reform campaigners – including Senator Nick Xenophon, Senator for South Australia; Senator Larissa Waters, Senator for Queensland; Shonica Guy, a recovering gambling addict who is pursuing litigation against Crown Casino and Aristocrat; Allison Keogh, Alliance for Gambling Reform – to launch “Pokie Leaks”, which will invite members of the public to contact them with inside information about the poker machine industry and how it operates.

“Pokie Leaks is a campaign inviting poker machine industry insiders and members of the public to communicate directly with parliamentarians and to tell them what they know,” Mr Wilkie said.

“The poker machine industry is obsessed with keeping its secrets. No wonder Clubs NSW recently dropped its legal action against the ABC on account of the court discovery process and requirement to open its books to scrutiny.

“Pokie Leaks promises to shine a light into the dark corners of the pokies industry and finally give us answers to questions like how the industry deliberately creates and keeps on the hook gambling addicts, where all the money goes, and how it manages so effectively to manipulate politicians and political parties to leave it all well alone.

“If you have information to share, then contact our offices. We’ll keep your identity secret and will be able to use the information in our fight for meaningful gambling reform, including in the Parliament if necessary.

“The public has a right to know about how the poker machine industry operates. Pokie Leaks will help achieve that.”
