Liberals are no friend of renewables
• Liberals scaremongering about renewable energy reliability
• Federal comments bad news for Tasmania
• Matthew Groom failing to correct misinformation
The Federal Liberal Government’s attack on renewable energy is bad news for Tasmania.
Senior Liberals, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull have used the extraordinary black out in South Australia to undermine the roll-out of renewable energy.
Labor Leader and Shadow Minister for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Bryan Green said the ill-informed comments should sound alarm bells in Tasmania.
“Tasmania has the opportunity to be a world leader in renewable energy but it is becoming increasingly clear that the backwards view of the Liberal Party is holding us back,” Mr Green said.
“The Tasmanian Government should be publicly condemning their Federal colleagues for undermining confidence and potential investment in renewable energy.
“Does Matthew Groom agree with the Prime Minister and Minister for Energy that the blackout in SA was caused by renewables?
“If not, why has he remained silent?”
“Labor has set a target to construct an additional 500 MW of renewable energy, including wind and solar.
“Tasmania is uniquely placed to build more intermittent renewable energy because of our existing baseload capacity in the Hydro system.
“However, to achieve our vision we need supportive Federal Government policies, not the 19th century thinking of the Liberals.”
