Will the Libs change their Super Trawler policy now that they admit it cost them Tasmanian seats?
Greens spokesperson for Fisheries, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, provides the following response to Senator Eric Abetz’s claims that he tried to change the Liberals’ super trawler policy and that it cost them seats in Tasmania.
Senator Whish-Wilson said, “Now that the Tasmanian Liberals have accepted that the Tasmanian people do not support Super Trawlers, I look forward to seeing the Government immediately rescinding the license for the Geelong Star.
“It was Senator Richard Colbeck who was the Geelong Star’s biggest supporter and with him no longer in Parliament I expect to see the Liberals formally changing their policy when Parliament returns.
“I will be moving a motion in the new Senate in support of a Super Trawler ban and I hope the Liberals, especially the remaining Tasmanian Liberals vote in support of it,” he concluded.
