TasWater’s community grant

Posted on

With the demand for volunteers increasing, TasWater has awarded City Mission a grant to aid recruitment through a marketing campaign.

Volunteers are the life and blood of City Mission.

While much of the cold of winter is hopefully behind us, ongoing unemployment and the high cost of living remains a challenge for many in our community.

This continues to place pressure on our services and therefore we need the support of volunteers to ensure the City Mission can provide the quality and level of assistance to the people who seek it.

Community volunteers support City Mission in numerous ways through our social enterprises, office and administration duties, preparation and serving of meals and general maintenance of facilities. Volunteering can help improve the mental and physical health of an individual and is an opportunity to meet new people, share experiences, connect with the community and be a positive influence for clients.

The grant from TasWater will be used to develop and implement a strategic, community-minded and professional volunteer recruitment campaign across Northern Tasmania. It will also assist with improving the experience and benefits for volunteers in terms of greater recognition, social inclusion and onsite training.

CEO Michael Brewster says TasWater is more than happy to help the City Mission in its important work.

“Each year we distribute a number of grants to community groups across the state and its very satisfying to see the value each organisation manages get from the money we provide.”

“Our grants although modest, result in some really innovative ideas in assisting the community and often fill a need not met by more formally structured funding options.”
