TASSO welcome Minister’s initiative

Posted on

TASSO welcomes the Minister’s announcement today on the early starting age for prep, and congratulate Minister Rockliff for taking into account the concerns of parents and the community.

Leaving the choice of the early starting of schooling in the hands of parents re-emphasises the fact that the parent is the first educator of the child, and re-affirms government’s commitment to parental engagement.

The additional spending on the early years is also very welcome recognition of the vital part that this period plays in the development of our children.

“The TASSO Conference Program (Saturday 27th August in Burnie) will continue as planned with the Starting Age Discussion Panel, it will provide a unique opportunity for our members to discuss the finer details of today’s announcement with direct input from DoE Secretary Jenny Gale, the Children’s Commissioner Mark Morrissey, Demographer Amina Keygan, founder of Tasmanians Say NO to a Lower School Starting Age Jannette Armstrong and Executive Director Devonport Childcare Mick Clark.” said TASSO President Ant Dry.
