Plea to affected parties during recovery efforts after the floods
In the wake of Tasmania’s floods, representatives of the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline are urging those affected by the floods to follow the normal dial before they dig process during any recovery works on their properties or their utilities in roading corridors.
Alternatively, those affected can also call the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline service provider’s local office in Launceston on 03 6345 2300 to seek guidance and support in any recovery works in close proximity to the pipeline.
Becher Townshend, spokesperson for the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline, said while he understood this is a distressing time, it is essential that those affected work with the necessary authorities to ensure accidental damage is not caused to underground infrastructure.
“We understand a large number of livestock has been lost in this natural disaster, and while we are not discounting the affect this has had on Tasmania’s farmers, and understand appropriate measures need to be taken to ensure the public’s health and safety, we do ask they communicate with the necessary authorities should they wish to bury livestock on their property,” Mr Townshend said.
“Deceased livestock must be disposed of in a timely manner, however accidental damage to underground infrastructure may cause unnecessary impacts on Tasmanians already affected by the flood through disruptions to power, gas and internet services.”
“While most local authorities and property owners are aware of where the pipeline crosses within their boundaries, it is timely to remind everybody the pipeline is there and ask they still call the hotline and check before digging into the ground.”
Dial before you Dig is a free Australia-wide service, enquiries can be lodged via avenues, online at www.1100.com.au, ringing the national call centre on 1100 during business house or by using the 1100 (Dial Before you Dig) iPhone app.
