Letters to the Editor – Buying Votes

Posted on

Dear Sir,
whilst it may be a nice thing to promise $140,000,000 towards a Football Stadium in Townsville I can help but think this is just a vote buying scheme.
Before further wasting money secure Medicare for Seniors, Pensioners, disabled and low paid workers.
Any suggestion of privatizing Medicare should be fought against by all pensioners, seniors etc.
What happened to Grey Power?
It needs to be resurrected and perhaps a Political Party needed to represent our needs, not the wealthy.
We have worked all our lives to secure a humble pension, now we have a Government who wishes to downgrade it.
An example is the right to own your own home, it is not an asset that should be assessed as such, but the sanctuary that many did with out to purchase.
Turnbull is fortunate as many other Politicians are that there Pensions and perks are protected or no need to access Medicare.
It is time that spending a sum as large as $140 Million be reconsidered, the same applies to Queensland’s Premier also pledging a further $100 million.
Put that money into Hospitals and homes for the homeless; get your priorities in order.
If they want to cut back or trim spending start at the top (just like a tree, not the bottom).
Start to cut the wastage, rather than spend more – JOBS – GROWTH, I would rather hear or see SPEND or CUT WASTAGE.
How much has been spent on housing so called Refugees, and paying them living expenses?
I say give them 6 months to be assessed and then repatriated to where they came from or sent to a Refugee camp and accept some from those camps who have been assed as bone fide refugees and have been in the refugee camps for over 5 years, that way it would be fair and show boat people they will not jump to the front of the queue.
It is time the United Nations broadened the base of countries who will accept refugees, better still let us see countries that Islamic accepting refugees on a permanent basis.
Returning to my initial comments, I ask when are we going to see more emphasis on looking after those who have already paid their dues.
Education does not need billions to fix it’s problems, but have parents play a bigger part in pre-school teaching.
Stick with the basics reading writing and arithmetic, forget all the add on unnecessary lessons
Once you leave and get a job there will be further education applied UNI- TAFE etc. appropriate to the work a person will undertake.
How much does a person get who is DVA against that of a pensioner?
I am curious especially if it is massive?
