Letter to the Editor: What the Future holds – Perhaps resurrection of Grey Power
After hearing lots of promises of the weeks preceding the ELECTION one has to wonder what the future holds?
Already we have been advise the price of Electricity is increasing as of 1st July – Today.
Then we will hear the local councils will increase water rates, and whatever they can do to bring in extra revenue.
It is time that The Government, Local Councils MPs, and Councillors started to reign in their spending and wastage, start with removing perks and freeze their wages.
There was a time when a councillor was not paid a wage or given a car, they were paid only when attending a Council Meeting.
Stop MPs getting free International flights, it is about serving the Community.
“SERVING US not please yourself”.
Stop referring to one’s home as an asset, the home is what people have saved and bought at great expense due to Banks and greedy interest rates.
It is not to be rated as an asset suggesting wealth, certainly when those who have more than one residence and claim exemptions via “negative gearing”.
It may be time to resurrect “Grey Power” and let Seniors have a strong voice.
It seems that they have not been included in any proposals or future assistance – Pension increases, subsidies with power rates etc..
I believe that both Government and Local Councils need to become more active in looking after the older generation who do not have the same luxury of being on high wages or Pensions.
It is time to remember they have been elected to SERVE.
C Frost.
