Students Against Racism is a group of students who came to Australia as refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from a diversity of countries and personal circumstances.

They have developed a dramatic presentation that explains why they left their homelands, the journey that brought them to Australia and their lives now. They have also created a range of cultural awareness activities that teach participants about the issues and challenges facing people new to the Australian community. The project started in 2008 and the group has presented to schools, university classes and community organisations around Tasmania as well as in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. They have won a number of awards including the 2015 Australian Human Rights ‘Racism It Stops With Me’ Award.

Their aim in developing this project was to be proactive in the face of the racism they encountered. They felt this racism often came from a lack of understanding about why asylum seekers, refugees and migrants were settling in Australia. The project aims to build understanding in an open and interactive way and therefore reduce racism.
All funds raised go to the Students Against Racism, an award-winning anti-racism education program.
