TODAY: International Women’s Day (IWD) 2016
The Urban Group of Amnesty International Australia (AIA) stands with women globally on International Women’s Day (IWD) 2016
IWD is a global day to celebrate achievements of women past, present and future.
AIA-Tas Urban Group and the International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA) are inviting people to celebrate IWD by addressing the protection of women’s rights globally.
AIA campaigns for the rights of women including, refugees and rape victims across the world and is calling for the end violence against women. Governments have an obligation to eliminate violence against women and AIA holds them to account for their failure to protect women and urges them to live up to their duty to stop this violence.
IWDA, an Aid agency, is focussed on women’s rights and gender equality in the Asia Pacific region and partners with others in the region to advance women’s human rights by tackling issues of power, money and security. A short video will demonstrate women’s leadership in Fiji, highlighting civil and political rights.
Date: Tuesday March 8th Time: 5.30pm – 7pm Location: Fullers Bookshop 131 Collins Street, Hobart, Tasmania 7000 All welcome
