Save the Tarkine welcomes Supreme Court decision to uphold Ministerial accountability laws
Save the Tarkine welcomed the decision of Justice Wood that Save the Tarkine is entitled to receive a Statement of Reasons for the decisions of former Ministers Bryan Green and Paul Harriss to grant mine leases to Venture Minerals.
The mine leases were granted at Livingstone (2012) and Mt Lindsay (2014). Both Minister’s refused to provide Statements of Reasons as required under the Judicial Review Act.
“The decision of the Court has upheld the principle of Ministerial accountability. It was clearly wrong and patently obstructionist for the Minister’s to withhold their statements of reasons.”, said Save the Tarkine Campaign Coordinator, Scott Jordan.
“We have waited for almost four years for the reasons for the Livingstone lease, and twenty months for the Mt Lindsay reasons”.
“We now look forward to seeing what these Ministers were so committed to hide”.
Matters of timeframes for the handover of the statement of reasons and costs will be heard Thursday 17th March.
