Water Restrictions lifted at Whitemark, Orford and Triabunna
Water restrictions at Orford and Triabunna on Tasmania’s east coast and Whitemark on Flinders Island have been lifted.
After weeks of restrictions, water supplies serving the three Tasmanian communities have recovered to the extent where limitations on the use of water are no longer necessary.
Whitemark on Flinders Island has been covered by Stage 2 water restrictions since 22 January with Orford and Triabunna on Stage 1 since 13 January.
Close monitoring of water catchments and storages serving these towns indicates the water supply is adequate to meet the needs of the community this coming autumn and winter.
The catchments have replenished following the significant rainfall recorded late in January and runoff has since filled storages.
Customers and residents in the towns will be receiving notification of the lifting of restrictions by mail early this week.
TasWater has been cautious in lifting restrictions in light of little evidence of follow up rain. Generally across Tasmania this has been the case with the final weeks of summer continuing to be mainly dry.
TasWater appreciates the cooperation of communities impacted by water restrictions and levels are being closely monitored so that changes to restrictions can be implemented as soon as is practical.
This is the first time in decades so many Tasmanian towns have faced water shortages and it’s a timely reminder to consider ways we can use water more wisely.
TasWaters ‘Save Each Drop’ program will continue to promote the water conservation message every summer with sensible water use one way of helping avoid restrictions into the future.
All other water restrictions remain in place with details available on the TasWater website, www.taswater.com.au
