New firefighters bolster ranks of TFS
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to a strong and well-resourced Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) that helps to protect lives and property.
Today, I was pleased to attend a graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of nine new firefighters who successfully completed a 15-week training program at the TFS Cambridge complex.
The new firefighters will help to bolster the ranks of our career brigades, and will be posted across the State.
Frontline firefighter numbers have increased under the Liberal Government, and we are also investing in improving their safety and effectiveness.
Our $15.3 million commitment to the Emergency Services Computer Aided Dispatch project will enhance the ability of TFS and our other emergency services to respond to incidents.
We are also continuing to roll out world-class firefighting personal protective clothing to improve the safety of firefighters across Tasmania.
The Government’s historic $28.5 million commitment over four years to the most comprehensive fuel reduction program ever undertaken in the State is helping to make us better prepared for summer bushfire season than ever.
We congratulate the nine new firefighters who have joined the ranks of the TFS, and we share their commitment to protecting life and property from fire.
