NDIS announcement welcomed but a lot of work still to be done
Labor welcomes the announcement today that the National Disability Insurance Scheme will continue to be extended to more Tasmanians from July next year.
Shadow Human Services Minister Rebecca White said the NDIS is making an enormous difference in the lives of those people who have been able to access it and its continued rollout will improve the quality of life for Tasmanians living with a disability.
“It was a landmark piece of social reform that Labor is very proud of,” Ms White said.
“There was growing concern in the sector and the community that the July date was becoming incredibly hard to meet the longer negotiations took to be finalised.
“There is still an enormous amount of work to do to provide details to those people who will be eligible to transition from July 2016 and to the organisations who will support them.
“Many working in the disability sector remain unsure about what Tier their organisation will operate in and how their funding will be provided.
“There is also a requirement to act quickly to meet the workforce demands that the NDIS will create.”
