Glenorchy: 2015 Carols By Candlelight
New Children’s Entertainment
Glenorchy City Council with event partners The Lions Club of Glenorchy have announced an exciting line up for its 2015 Carols by Candlelight event. The free, ticketless event will be held on Saturday 12 December at the popular Tolosa Park venue. Traditionally held on the second Saturday in December, this year’s Carols will feature specially commissioned children’s entertainment with a humorous Christmas story staged by popular Hobart performers, Big Monkey Theatre Company, courtesy of new event sponsors, YMCA Hobart.
Spokesperson and co-chairs of the Glenorchy Carols Organising Committee Ald Steve King and Ald David Pearce explain.
“We have responded to patron requests to refresh the children’s entertainment section of our Carols by commissioning family theatre specialists, Big Monkey Theatre Company. Many patrons will be familiar with the Company’s wonderful Botanical Garden’s summer family shows. The same musical humour will be present in this special children’s section on the night” said Ald King.
“Big Monkey have taken a twist on a popular Danish Christmas tale. All we can tell you without spoiling the story, is that only an appearance by Santa can save Christmas!” said Ald Pearce.
“Once again we have a wonderfully engaging host in local media personality, Mr Ryk Goddard”, added Ald. Pearce
“Ryk is the master of firing up a large audience – so our traditional emphasis on getting everyone up and singing is going to make this a really memorable night” concluded Ald. King.
Appearing on stage and in amongst the audience will be a host of well-known local choirs including the Choir of High Hopes, Vivace Young Voices, Bowen Road Primary School, Dominic College Choir, Hobart Barbershop Men’s A’capella, Hobart Women’s Harmony and Ta Daa Entertainment.
Together this line up of spectacular local talent will spread the joy of Christmas with the full complement of Christmas carols. Glenorchy Carols’ regulars the Glenorchy City Concert Brass , Tasmanian Song Company and Nicole Rosson Dancers , will also be starring.
The night will be hosted by 936 ABC Hobart Breakfast presenter Ryk Goddard with young upcoming vocalist Régan Schmidt.
Glenorchy Carols by Candlelight is a popular family tradition. Organisers encourage a relaxed family feel with room to enjoy a picnic, and plenty of onsite parking. Alternately patrons can use the free shuttles bus from the Glenorchy Bus Interchange from 6:30pm returning after the last carol.
Carols by Candlelight is a free community event developed by the Lions Club of Glenorchy and Glenorchy City Council, with major sponsor YMCA Hobart.
