Athletes Win TIS Scholarships
Tasmania’s proud record of sporting and athletic achievement continues on the national and international stage.
As athletes prepare for next year’s Olympic Games a new generation of dedicated and talented sports people are training hard to achieve their sporting dream.
This morning I was pleased to present 86 athletes with scholarships from the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS).
The scholarships will help Tasmanian athletes’ access first-class training and advice, quality equipment and assistance with travel costs for attending competitions.
The Tasmanian Government contributed $2.18 million this year to assist elite and promising Tasmanian athletes to achieve their national and international sporting goals.
Tasmanian Institute of Sport attendees represent a large field of sports including athletics, cycling, rowing, hockey, netball, sailing and swimming.
Current TIS scholarship holders who are on track for the 2016 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Rio include Kerry Hore (rowing), Hamish Peacock (athletics), Matt Bugg (sailing), Amy Cure (track cycling), Tim Deavin and Eddie Ockenden (hockey).
