Wilderness Society congratulates Tasmanian Australian of the Year Jane Hutchinson
The Wilderness Society extends its congratulations to Jane Hutchinson and her team at the Tasmanian Land Conservancy for her recognition as the 2016 Tasmanian Australian of the Year. The award is a welcome endorsement of conservation at a time when the pressures on nature are greater than ever.
“This is a well-deserved recognition for the dedication and leadership Jane has shown for private land conservation across Tasmania” said Vica Bayley, spokesperson for the Wilderness Society.
“Not only has Jane led her team to identify and protect some of the most important and biodiverse private land blocks in Tasmania, but she has pioneered a long overdue collaboration with the Aboriginal community to share natural and cultural values protection and deliver land justice outcomes for Aboriginal people.
This is exemplified in the purchase and protection of trawtha makuminya/Gowan Brae, in 2013.
The Tasmanian Land Conservancy owns and manages some spectacularly valuable private land in Tasmania, including some recognised as World Heritage and listed as part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
“Congratulations Jane and the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, keep up the great work and thanks for helping put nature conservation where it belongs- protected, respected and recognised.
