WEST TAMAR COUNCIL GETS COMMUNITY HERITAGE MONEY
NORTHERN Tasmania’s West Tamar Council is one of the organisations nationally to receive funding from the latest round of Community Heritage grants.
Federal Lyons MP Eric Hutchinson welcomed the announcement today of $4,640 for West Tamar Council.
The council will use the funds to make a significant assessment of the Beaconsfield Mine Museum’s historical gold mining material.
The Community Heritage Grants program is managed by the National Library of Australia and provides grants of up to $15,000 to community based museums, libraries, archives and historical societies.
Since 1994 the Community Heritage Grants Program has provided a total of $5.7 million for more than 1200 projects nationally.
The program is supported through the Ministry for the Arts and four of our country’s leading cultural institutions – the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia and National Film and Sound Archive and the National Museum of Australia.
Other funded activities in this round include assessment by specialists of the significance and preservation needs of collections and training for staff and volunteers in conservation and collection management.
